Hello, I am curious on the community's take on the difference between the title of a Project Director vs. Director of Project Management, and the associated difference in roles and responsibilities. I perceive the Project Director role to be more junior than the Director of Project Management, but couldn't find any concrete information. Feedback is appreciated, thanks!

Hi,

Kiron's explanation is similar to what i experienced in the current State Owned company i work for. where a Project Director managing mega project and has project managers responsible for the different streams reporting to him/her.

however, there are instances where the Project Director is appointed by the Project Sponsor to oversee a large ICT project, not mega. The role of this director is normally confusing for me as it seems similar to that of a Program Manager to whom the project manager reports day-to-day activities to and escalate the challenges to be addressed with the business in the absence of the sponsor

I broadly agree with Craig Hansen's view on this question.
The meanings of these titles can vary differently based on industry, geographical region, company structure, and so on.
