I've been using the PMchallenge feature on this site as part of my study for the PMP. Is this useful and effective, or should it be avoided?

Hi Eric - you can certainly use PM Challenge, but as a source for preparing for your PMP, I'd recommend other sources out there that are tested and proven (PMBOK, Rita, etc.). While PMI and the maintainers of this community have continued on improvements, there are still discrepancies that may add confusion. Community members tend to partake in the PM Challenge questions as a form of gamification and 'fun' while navigating the site - post PMP.

Good luck Eric! Hope this was helpful.

Hi Eric, it did help me when I was preparing for the exam. Another great reference as Andrew stated was the Rita online questions. I found the Rita questions helped me more on memorization of definitions. My most helpful reference in preparing for the exam was PMTraining. It is the closest I found to the actual exam. There is a fee for this site, but it was well worth it in my preparation.

PMP prep exam by Rita 9th edition is available, it's a great source for PMP exam prepration and as Andrew mentioned PM challenge questions can be used to keep you fresh with basic concepts but not for exam prep.

Eric -

I'll echo Andrew's feedback and add:

1. Some of the questions have the wrong answers - not a lot but enough to make me question the quality of this resource as a test aid.

2. They will not adequately test scenario-type questions or formula questions. Most of the PMChallenge questions are focused on rote memorization.

It can be, if only to highlight so many knowledge areas. I wouldn't rely on it heavily as it is not a very good system for checking answers all at once of getting score results etc.

I agree with Sante. It could be useful but I wouldn't rely to heavily on it.

I have been through the same and spent a lot of time on PM challenge, the fact is PM challenge is very appealing, as you can get a free access for it from anywhere, also unlimited number of question with fancy badges to earn, but the bad news is, it will not help you in gaining knowledge nor preparing for PMP exam.
unlike PM challenge, PMP exam questions are mostly situational which require deep understanding of project management processes, not just memorization the process or ITTO..

If you like to spend some time answering question for PMP exam preparation, you better go for Rita's fast track software, make sure you read Rita's book & PMBOK at least once before you start practicing.this is what worked for me.

Good luck.

No, it isn't. But it is fun ... ;)

Fun but I would not qualify it as 'helpful'. It's good to keep your brain moving while taking a break but dedicate your study time to materials that are created with the specific intent to prepare you for the PMP exam (PMBOK, Praizion, Rita Mulcahy, and Cornelius Fichtner). Good luck!!

Thanks, everyone. I take the PMP tomorrow. I was supposed to do it Wednesday, but it got canceled due to weather. The only way to get it done before Monday was to drive 270 miles to the only testing center with availability.

I have Rita's 8th edition that I've been using to study, plus the PMBOK, of course. I came across Praizion Tuesday night and wish I'd known about it sooner.
