Will the influence counter goes down if no contribution in a day?

I have observed the influence counter gone down by a point or two.

Will the counter ever goes down in first place (or) the hard earned points stay there? If goes down, then what is the duration, is it if there is no action or contribution in one day or x number of days?

Perhaps not in one day. There isn't much point trying to assess the influence algorithm since I have seen people drop points who seem very active and others gain points (or at least keep static on points) with little or no contribution. Better just to engage as needed and as you can, and then over time the influence number will on average reflect your contribution and others' interest in that contribution. Giving it much thought than this might keep you awake at night ;-)

Thanks for reply. Asked just out of curiosity to know about this behavior. On the other hand, yes, it will absolutely does not impact the engagement :)

Thanks Andrew for referring to the thread. That gives some insight to the behavior of this counter.

Thanks for posting the thread, I’ve just read it and my curiosity about the algorithm is quite high. I really wonder how is it all done, seems to be quite complex. I like the factor that the influence is actually influenced b the whole community. Few years ago I was involved in business dymanics simulations and this reminds me that a lot. Business dynamics simulations are models based on feedback loops, the calculations as integral equations. Would you know is this is involved?

If you want to see where focusing on influence could lead us, watch the first episode of the third season of Black Mirror - Nosedive...

Kiron, my eldest child watches Black Mirror and says it's her favorite show. I can't watch these shows because...I get easily addicted to them. But I have to say I did succumb to the entrancing powers of Game of Thrones.

I would still highly recommend that one episode - it is truly scary about where we are headed as a society with our addiction to various vanity metrics (e.g. Likes, Influence, Velocity, Connections...). It might just be what puts you off social networking for a while!

True Kiron, that's why I don't have social media accounts, I did create a twitter I think years ago but never used it, and deleted my facebook maybe 7 years ago. But then again, Linkedin is fat becoming a social media platform if not already.

I remember talking to a potential employer a few years back and during the interview they actually asked me "Don't you think there is something wrong with a guy who doesn't have a social media account?" My answer: "Only in 1984!"

Thanks for posting the question. I had noticed my counter does seem to go up and down and was curious as to why.
