Appropriate humor is a good way to inject some much needed levity into the normal stress of working on projects. However, anything can be taken too far.
One needs to be able to "read" the room to see if it's appropriate or not.
Of course, in this age of over-political correctness, the types of jokes which are acceptable is also narrowing year-over-year...
I think humor in almost all situations is healthy. As Kiron said as long as it's appropriate.

I once had a Manager who insisted on abbreviating "Follow Up' in the status and issues report to FU. He did not notice the implications. It became known as the 'FU" report to the project team.

Ah yes but the "Follow Up" was originally a column heading. Under the column heading was the name of the person who had the action. When it got abbreviated the column heading disappeared and the row item became FU: Paul, FU: Sante, etc, Extremely funny and sad at the same time.
Appropriate use of humor can help stay focus. It could help relief a tense situation an bring back the team to a solution mode. Saving Changes...
