PMI is updating the Project Management Professional (PMP)® exam, launching in July 2026, to reflect how project management is practiced today and ensure the PMP continues to define excellence in the profession. The update introduces new content areas and a modernized exam experience designed to match the realities of today’s work.

Why the Update Matters
To ensure the PMP exam remains relevant to modern practice, PMI conducted a global Job Task Analysis to identify the most critical skills and competencies for today’s project professionals.

The updated exam builds on these insights, emphasizing adaptability, value delivery, and outcomes across industries and approaches.

What’s New in the PMP Exam
The new exam keeps the PMP’s trusted foundation while introducing refinements that reflect how project management is practiced today:

  • Evolving content and focus areas: The exam now integrates emerging topics such as AI, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement, emphasizing results and value over output alone.
  • Refreshed domains: The three familiar domains—People, Process, and Business Environment—remain, with updated weightings to mirror today’s priorities: People (33%), Process (41%), and Business Environment (26%).
