A new PMP® exam is here. The head of our PMO asked me to see if it would have any effect on how we train our people to sit for the exam. Also, does it foretell any changes we may need to make in the way we do business? I’m concerned that there may be new information or alterations in the way existing employees, whether PMPs or not, should be conducting the day-to-day business of our organization if we want to stay competitive?
A. Once a project manager has a PMP, this prepares him or her to lead teams with maximum benefit regardless of any changes that come to the exam in the future. Just as the move from pencil and paper in-person exams to online computerized ones given at a testing center did not impact the skill of the project manager who passed and became certified, so the content shifts in the upcoming exam will not degrade current PMP certifications.
B. The only major change in the latest version is to give candidates a way to add AI “team members” to the mix. All of the original content otherwise remains equally valuable and should not be altered in any way.
