My friend in another company told me that his organization was brought up on charges because their website was not ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant. Now management in my company has appointed me as the person to make sure that all of our websites, documents, and other places people have interaction with my organization are compliant with what the federal government requires. I have no idea what to do or how to get started. Any ideas?
A. Every employee needs to be able to open, use and understand all of your corporate documents, whether they are e-mails, websites or presentations. The steps you will need to take will help most people, not just those with visual, hearing or physical limitations. There are programs to help spot compliance issues.
B. Since only those people who work for your organization may have a problem with your website and internal documents, you can ask people to sign a waiver that they will not report you if your materials and access points are not compliant. If no one says anything, the government will not be able to figure out that you are not meeting the requirements.
