An enjoyable part of your role as a leader is to make life easier for your workforce. You get to show that you have an ability to understand what really frustrates workers and to attack the source of that frustration head-on. Discretion is the better part of valor, so attack an easy project foe and common source of problems – meetings!
 
Meeting Frustrations: More Than Just Stressful
Sure you know that meetings can be a waste of time. They can be overwhelmed by war stories or taken over by overly assertive individuals. They can be venues for complaining rather than problem solving or planning. Add up all the frustrations and you have hours upon hours every week of wasted worker time.
 
But that's not all! Essential decisions are not made because critical attendees do not attend because of bad planning and meeting management. At other times, bad decisions are made because all expertise was not leveraged at meetings. Work is relegated to meetings when it could have been completed more efficiently in another way.
 
What You Can Do As Project Manager
Leadership is exercised ahead of the actions of the workforce. You must start early to campaign to establish a meeting management procedure, executing critical actions in each stage of your project.
