When in Rome, Japan...
Mike Donoghue is a member of a multinational information technology corporation where he collaborates on the communications guidelines and customer relationship strategies affecting the interactions with internal and external clients. As Saint Ambrose supposedly said, “si fueris Romae, Romano vivito more; si fueris alibi, vivito sicut ibi.”
Not familiar with that saying? Perhaps if you could translate mediaeval Latin you might understand it more quickly, “If you are in Rome, live in the Roman way.” More commonly of course, we now say “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
While you can make the assumption that this refers to situations where an individual gets immersed in another culture and needs to adapt to their surroundings, you can take this to a higher degree and apply it to circumstances where you need to create your own personal Rome--a place of splendor and innovation.
