Though projects have been organized throughout history, the organization of project management into a technology-enabled discipline is relatively recent. Cultures like the Romans, Egyptians and many others used techniques such as quality management and schedule management to achieve amazing results. It was not until the 20th century, however, that a formal body of knowledge around the technology of project management was established.
Technologies like the Gantt chart, the Program Evaluation and Review Technique, and the Critical Path Method were born in the 20th century. Organizations like gantthead and PMI have served the project management community by organizing the application of these technologies to promote project management.
