“Going Green” is a term most everyone is familiar with these days. However, applying green practices and ideas to the management of projects is relatively new to the project management community. For instance, did you know there are websites dedicated to green pmanagement? Sites like greenprojectmanagement.org (owned by GPM Global, which teaches Green Project Management worldwide and has a project delivery methodology based on ISO:14001) and green-pm.com provide a wealth of information on how to integrate green practices into your projects. A good place to begin with the exploration of is with a definition of the term. Green-pm.com defines it as follows:
“Green project management is a model where we think green throughout our project and make decisions that take into account the impact on the environment--if any. It is a way to ingrain ‘greenthink’ into every project management process…The point about green project management is not that we make every decision in favor of the one that is most environmentally friendly. The point is that we start to take the environment into account instead of ignoring it.”
Based on the above definition, adding “greenthink” to projects means finding ways to practice common-sense conservation techniques that do not hinder achieving the project’s budgetary, timeline and value-…
