Enterprise Architecture Blueprint for Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) to Maximize the Return on Investment (ROI)
The primary goal of enterprise knowledge management systems (KMS) is to establish, run, and maintain an enterprise environment that provides process participants with the infrastructure to successfully contribute enterprise-wide project learning to the knowledge management engine. Furthermore, dissemination of the project learning to the enterprise project teams through the project life cycle is used to create maximum impact, primarily by enterprise knowledge leverage and application to derive benefit/value realization for the process participants who interact with the knowledge management systems.
Although many organizations have implemented knowledge management systems (KMS), most organizations face the following common challenges in the realization of ROI from enterprise KMS:
- How does KMS link KMS application capabilities to the goals of the business units/organization?
- How does the organization’s KMS application functionality align with the operational characteristics of the participating business processes to provide maximum ROI?
- How does KMS support and provide ROI for the participating business process participants?
- How does the organization’s KMS improve interoperability, integration, and enables agility to the participating business processes?
