The Project Management Pioneer and The QAD Pattern

This article explores the difficulties in implementing a project management activity in an existing organization; also presented here are the assumptions of a start scenario and a simple tool to use for making this start easier and smoother.

The QAD pattern is a tool for organizing the questions, answers, and decisions in a project in order to establish the action priority.

 1. The Start Scenario

1.1. The Motive

The chief executive officer (CEO) of your company wants to improve the financial results of his or her business throughbetter cooperation between departments, enhanced awareness and control of costs, and a more customer-oriented approach to every detail of the job.

The CEO decides to create a project manager position despite the lack of Project Management Professional (PMP)® certified staff in the company.

1.2. The Premise

You:  You are the first project manager in your company.  The pros: You have broad experience as a technical leader and are able to understand the financial aspects of your projects. You have excellent communication skills, especially when dealing directly with customers from different countries. The cons: You are not a certified PMP® and you need intense training in the field of project management in order to be certified as a PMP as soon as possible.
