Most organizations are involved at some level in a cloud transformation journey. They want to take advantage of the power of cloud computing so that they accelerate their business and see value from their investments as early as possible.

Before we discuss some of the essential cloud computing skills that project managers need, let's look at a typical scenario. Imagine a PM who has no knowledge of the cloud is invited into a stakeholder meeting, where he is asked about a high-level plan on migrating some of the applications to the cloud—and the various technical risks, dependencies and constraints involved with it. If he is not aware of how applications in the cloud work, he would be clueless.

But project managers can equip themselves with the necessary skills so that they can break down the work structure in a more meaningful way—and be in a better position to analyze project risks and their dependencies for each migrating component from on-premises to cloud.
