This PM Approach is Getting RAVES
Combining project management tools and techniques—as well as hybrids of project management methodologies—is hardly a novel concept. However, I've leveraged a hybrid method consistently and successfully over three decades of project and program management, across multiple professional disciplines (including population health management, education, and environmental/engineering consulting).
I've coined the basic method as RAVES:
Rapid
Agile
Value-based
Evolving Scope
This is essentially a value-based, stakeholder-focused, iterative approach to project management that drives efficiently toward prioritized outcomes—while simultaneously seeking to gain improved stakeholder engagement, build relationships, and enhance value of the projects.
This is accomplished by identifying other related needs among matrix partners and delivering clear value where it is needed, beyond the preliminary project scope—both for the stakeholders (partners), as well as for the overall organization.
The extra value provided by this approach can be either in the form of…
- direct additions to the overall project scope (adding an additional area to project scope or working with them outside the official project structure—i.e., working “off the side of one's desk”)
