Q: How do you prefer collaborating with team members (virtually, in person, via email only, phone, etc.)?
I can adapt to all, but nothing beats in person.

It is exciting to see my favorite web sites coming together! I used to have a separate username/password for my local PMI chapter site, pmi.org and projectmanagement.com. Now I just have to use my pmi.org password for all three.

For many client needs, collaboration via WebEx, email, phone, or IM is effective. However, we all know that remote mediums do not always display how much is being completed and resolved without some face-to-face time. For major projects that have high demands or more direct user interfacing, I prefer in person meetings. For those project phases and tasks that are easily managed remotely, I prefer those formats mentioned above.

I prefer a combination! Some communication lends itself to a documented response in email. Other communication requires face to face (in person or video chat). I like communicator for those quick tap on the shoulder communication needs!

I prefer a face-to-face meeting, perhaps with videconference for remote attendees, for the initial kick-off meeting. Communication technologies that allow toggling between a camera and a "virtual whiteboard" can also be valuable virtual collaboration tools, although I observed some generational differences in terms of willingness to experiment and acceptance.
I prefer to meet the team in person at the early stages of the project. After that, phone or email works fine.

Good luck on the cut-over. May you experience minimal interruptions or bugs!

looking forward to this t-shirt
I prefer in person, however I've done it effectively by phone and email. On rare occasions had video links which were good.

Looking forward for a new experience @ project management.com!!!
How do you prefer collaborating with team members (virtually, in person, via email only, phone, etc.)?
I've always found it best to adapt to the needs of the project and the team members. Usually a combination if each of the types is necessary on any given project. However, with that said some approaches are insufficient as a standalone mechanism. Email especially can cause confusion and lead to follow-on email exchanges that unnecessarily consume resource and time.

The needs of the [extended] project team dictate communicaiton styles.

The collaboration requires flexibility but if there is a choice then my preference would be the face to face.
