Multitasking – Reality or Myth
Organizations want their resources to multitasking. Is really feasible? Can human brain do parallel processing. Not at all possible; brain can not do the parallel processing.
What does it really mean multitasking? Handling different tasks from different buckets such a way that all task from each bucket is done with full control over bucket.
How it can be done?
Prioritize – Tasks from each bucket must be prioritize such a way….one bucket at a time
Do – Some tasks must be done by you!
Delegate – Delegate to your team!
Review – Review progress of each bucket….set Frequency..May be daily, once in two days, weekly, M-W-F
Re Prioritize – Again, if something doesn't work
All buckets are becoming Empty!

Pravin, you have explained with a good example how to carry out multiple tasks.
You have rightly emphasized : PRIORITIZATION is at the root of success of multitasking person.
Level of priority may change multiple times for the same task in a day or in a week depending on how you agree to deliver a product to your multiple clients.
For long duration tasks, deliver result in multiple intermediate packets , while some packet is done, priority 2 job can be started to give a push before taking up priority 1 job again.
It is an ART , I must say.
Not every one can do it.
It comes with experience and efficient time and peoplemanagement.

Very well said. Prioritization and delegation are most important to handle many works at a time. You cannot have ten heads in your body but you can have 10 helping minds.

Excellent post. It is true that research has shown that human's are simply not capable of multi-tasking, and when we try to do this we actually end up switching between tasks, and this is less efficient than focussing on one.
It is important as PMs and as managers of PMs to recognise this, and realise that the more we expect people to simulate "multi-tasking" the lower their overall efficiency becomes, and we need to factor that in.
As people trying to multi-task, we need to recognise the inefficiency of switching and try as much as possible to minimise this by dedicating time to at least some of the tasks - if you are doing 3 projects at once, far better to spend half a day on each to the exclusion of the others rather than try to keep focus on all three all the time.
