As project managers, we rarely have the ability to tell people what to do, or what not to do. We are often the purveyor of impartial information and recommendations based on them. If the business/customer decides to select a different option, we often have to do it their way. It's our job to make sure they understand the potential impact.

Sometimes they are just like kids shoveling in the sand and it is kind of fun to watch them playing. But typically you have to stop them before they have dug a hole so big that it swallows the whole project...
