It's important to understand who the stakeholders are on our projects. Not all stakeholders are alike. No matter how well you plan, your understanding of them will remain a mystery.
What are stakeholders? /
Things you'll never understand /
Even with a plan
Focus on the stakeholders that matter. The ones that can cause your project to fail. The ones where the relationship is important.

I agree with you Robert and You'll get to know them as you go.
Stakeholders management my favourite knowledge area. You can read, you can learn, you can plan...but always you'll get a surprise!

The PMBoK needs a knowledge area for confronting skills.

Good one, Robert. Agree that the PMBoK has too little focus on the softer, less technical side of projects. It is not ignored, but to me it looks like it is meant to be deterministic, which it just will never be. As if you really could manage, i.e. control stakeholders. You just can control yourself and plan your actions, but you can't plan ahead how you'll react to whatever they throw at you during a project
Communications is key to identify and deliver on expectations!

Completely agree with you. Stakeholders are the human side of project management, really difficult to fathom but hold the key to success of the project.
Oh that human touch/
Stakeholders are the key/
Very hard to fathom/
