Community of Practice (CoP) Sharing during COVID19- Offshore Lifting and Flare tip removal and installation by CONBIT

Categories: Industry

Summary

During the Movement Control Order (MCO), the initiative has been initiated by the CDD CoP team to organise CoP on the method for removal existing flare tip and installation of new flare tip at D18MP-A platform and offshore lifting method.

Sample of the project is D18MP-A flare tip replacement. The execution of the hook-up and commissioning completed in 2019 where the engineering and construction of the flare tip started in 2018 as the overall duration take about 4-6 months ( plus year end holiday).

What was supposed to happen?

In previous practice, the CoP is performed at office meeting room and will be invited to all staff within the department. Some challenges if the CoP perform at the office;

1. Not all staff able to participate due to external works, outstation, clash with other meeting.

2. Presenter need to be physically come to venue for presentation/sharing session.

3. No video recording during presentation, thus for those who not able to join, they're not able to retrieve back the presentation video.

What actually happened?

1). CoP sharing session perform through Microsoft team Meeting (MT), and the presenter from CONBIT is not within the organisation ( external parties). The participants of the sharing session among Petronas colleagues and all of us remotely around Malaysia and still able to join the session.

2). All participants and presenter connected via MT, able to perform online video-conferencing presentation and the presenter able to deliver with power point presentation and even sharing video via MT.

3). The session lasted for 1 hours , with 45 minutes presentation and 15 minutes for Q&A. It has benefited to all HUC engineers especially on understanding the method of lifting without using the workbarge/workboat crane. Some best practices of installation and removal of flare tip that perform within the industry.

Why were the differences?

1) The differences, the CoP is performed using the Microsoft Team meeting (MT) for webinar concept. The speaker able to present the topic smoothly using the system and participants able to engage with the speaker during the Q&A sessions.

- Participants more than 15 pax where typical COP at office less than <10 pax

- Q&A able to perform via verbal question or even the participants jot down at the chat box to speaker

- Able to record the presentation and able to share with others who not able to join the session

What can we learn from this?

During this MCO while most of staff working from Home (WHO), we're actually able to explore and maximise the advantages that we have via all the available technology within the company provided. With the introduction of Microsoft Team Meeting , we able to conduct a meeting with participants from various places ,even in this case, the presenter was from outside KL yet he able to present the sharing session.

Less effective during the MCO? It is evidence that, we can be more effective if we're able to push beyond the normal practice and able to maximise the technology that available within the company. All the record very seamless for future reference as the video/audio recorded via MT.  Even with MT, we able to join many meeting in one time without need to move ourself physically from one meeting room to another, thus we can quickly rejoin the CoP sharing session once our meeting has been completed.

Hi & Good day to all,

There a lot of things that you can do to collect hours for your require to renew your PDU. For me it is what you doing on daily task in your job. Many things that you do that related to project management can be registered in the PDUs. The total PDUs requires for PMP is 60 PDUs. As member for PMI, you can upload & register your PDUs via online.

The activities that can register in the PDUs like training, technical meeting, facilitator, project meeting and etc. However all the PDUs shall cover in Education & Giving Back. For me i have conducted many trainings for the pass 3 years, so most of PDUs captured for renew my PMP certification is from training that i conducted. Apart from that, whenever you giving back via training you actually learn more & giving you more depth in understanding the project management knowledge area. The PDUs element captured as below & breakdown in details in the criteria;

  1.  Education
    • Leadership
    • Technical
    • Strategic & business
  2. Giving Back
    • Work as practitioner
    • other giving back

You'll definitely can have better understanding the PMBOK itself & sometimes the question from trainee is something that you're not think aware of it before. This actually provide new spectrum of understanding on project management based on Q&Q during the training.

Among other activities that you can register for PDUs is any day to day activities as such attending meeting, conducted discussion, informal training i.e reading books and etc. However, please ensure that you keep any evidences for all activities that you've stated above. Even though from the register of the PDU online not require for you to attach the evidence, but it is good for your to ensure that all of your activities collected for PDUs is tracking & captured.

It is my time to renew my PMP after 3 years, and it is good experience & learning curve for this period. Project Management is also a skills

Categories: Motivation

Assalamualaikum & Good day to all,

It has been awhile i'm not write up any article in this blog. This time i would like to share some of my thoughts about project management skills. For me, the interesting part about project management is that, it is a skills which you can gain along the way while you handling any projects. But again, you also need to sharpen you skills by attending trainings, classes & attending any short course in project management.

People may underestimate the job that related to Project Management but for me the mastermind for each of project to success is depending on how well the project management is being implemented in any project. People might not aware that they are handling projects in day to day of their work. But somehow, the skills that they implemented while handling project just coincidence and not refer to best practices such as translated in the Project Management Book. For me it is good guidance and reference inside PMBOK, it provides us with the correct method & technique in handling project.

For me, from time to time, you need to sharpen your skills in project management. Likewise for those need to gauge your capability in project management, you may enrol for PMP and PMI-RMP as what I did. It is a long journey for me to pass for both examination  that are PMP & PMI-RMP, but it is worth for me. It thought me that there are still a lot of things that you'd to learn in project management.

The knowledge in project management is wide which sometimes you'd never know the branches of it. I hope we continue to learn and sharpen our skills in project management and always look for reference from best GURUs in project management.

Project management institute (PMI) definitely the best centre to provide you the knowledge that you need. By having member of PMI for many years, I have gained a lot of knowledge and I do learn from the best trainer that I got from online likewise free webinar and etc.

I hope we continue to share the knowledge among us & together we unite to bring "Project Management" as terminology that everyone need to know & made them know the importance of project management even in their daily life.

Kindly share your thoughts in comments & i hope we can continue sharing our experience in this projectmanagement.com

Thank You.
