There are a lot more risks that impact a project than the ones that the team identifies as potentially impacting the project delivery work. Project managers need to be aware of these risks, as they affect the larger project environment—the portfolio that a project belongs to, the operating environment that the project’s deliverables will be released into, etc.

These risks are not directly managed by the PM, but understanding them is critical. In this worksheet, several categories of risk have been identified and defined. Use this to guide discussions with stakeholders to identify the various risks that fall into each of those categories, and make sure you understand how those risks may impact the work of the project.
