Hi All, similar to PMP certification, I am hoping to do an Agile Certification. Could you please share your thoughts on the ones that will be most valuable? Thanks!

Thanks Rajesh. A few intro courses on LinkedIn Learning talk about Scrum Master and Product Owner roles on Agile projects. Do the certifications you talk about, deal with any of these roles in detail? Although I understand the Agile methodology, havent worked on an agile project before. Regards!

Anuradha -

Agree with Rajesh.

PMI-ACP is not role specific but on all agile approaches and how to implement agile in an organisation. It is offered by PMI. CSM, PSM are Scrum Master role certifications. CSPO is for Product Owner roles. If you want to do role specific certifications go for these.

All of these are well-recognised.

For PMI-ACP it is mandatory to have:
1) the 2000 hours of proved work in project team (if you have PMP in good status, you already satisfy this condition),
and
2) additionally 1500 hours of proved work in Agile team (as any team member).
Without that you just cannot apply for this exam.

Each time I decided to start the effort to get a certification I made my own estimation about future market demands focused on what is my work practice. I earned the PMP (Project Management), PMI-PBA (Business Analysis), PMI-ACP (Agile) all from the PMI. I earned the CBAP (Buiness Analysis from the IIBA) and I earned one related to Agile that is especific to DSDM Method: AP&C - DSDM Agile Practitioner and Coach. PMI-ACP is a generalistic certification related to Agile. Others are especific to an Agile based method/framework. So, I still think is a matter of future market demmands.

In line with Sergio's comment. Tell us more about your current and target roles. There are options for Scrum Master certifications, Product Owner certifications, Scaled Agile certifications, or more generic Agile Practice certifications. Some require a base amount of experience, some require classes, while others can be accomplished online.

Anuradha, just like Andrew states, what roles or companies are you looking at to apply your agile skills? I have found the PMI-ACP certification to be very broad and recognized across multiple industries and markets. Whereas the Scrum Master or Product Owner certifications are recognized in more software-centric organizations. Other agile certifications like Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) are broader than the scrum certifications but in some cases required by specific companies. So again, are you targeting a specific industry or company?
