Have you ever been watching a movie or TV show and realize that a character is doing project management.
I was binge-watching Sons of Anarchy (for those who do not know, a show about a motorcycle "club" that runs guns for the IRA).
The main character, Jax Teller took over as president of the club. I was watching him managing his stakeholders (IRA, Russians, Mexicans, etc). He was trying to keep everyone in line (occasionally, he did need to eliminate a stakeholder). His resource management was very good, sending different club members to handle issues as they popped up and always sending them in pairs so there would be a back-up. Product management and quality control, moving the guns, trading guns, delivering the drugs, etc. Initiating new projects, prostitution in an effort to move away from the guns. Setting up sub-contractors to handle areas of distribution therefore transferring the risk. Schedule management of course to get the guns or drugs where they need to be in a timely manner. Risk management again in dealing with the law and rival gangs.
I was very impressed with the character's application of PMI. Saving Changes...

I do the same - watching TV programmes with half an eye on the project management principles they use (or don't). Films with wedding planning in always get me - they are either super organised following good risk management and scheduling, or a disaster! Saving Changes...

What a great analogy! I do the same with "Queen Sugar" and "Queen of the South". Very different shows with very different "PMs".

Dinah, Sons of Anarchy is one of my favorite all time TV Shows. I watched all series ..... I can say his risk management strategies failed him.

His Risk Management failed him because he became reactionary after the death of his wife and stopped following PMI. He did not do proper analysis of the situation.
And everything is project management :)

His Risk Management failed him because he became reactionary after the death of his wife and stopped following PMI. He did not do proper analysis of the situation.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can appreciate the organization involved in organized crime. I've never seen 'Sons of Anarchy', but I have long considered how to run an organization like Al Capone's.
I think a dedicated Risk Manager would make all the difference. In organized crime the risks are numerous and constantly change, and the impacts are very severe. I don't think most crime bosses consider their risk responses carefully enough, not by a long shot.

Crime bosses do have a lot to manage and therefore probably follow many of the PMI practices. I think they probably identify their risks, but do not properly mitigate.
