Depends on the industry, project management requirements and project management maturity.
MS project does not meet many requirements that exist in construction and manufacturing projects (managing volumes of work, resource productivity, application of the corporate norms, team and independent resource assignments, multiple dependencies between two activities and a lot more).
Besides, it creates poor resource constrained schedules, shows wrong floats in the leveled schedules and has few scheduling options.
The list of its shortages is too long for the forum post.

I expect that it is useful in IT for management of small teams and manual leveling. But still these projects also require project risk simulation absent in MS Project.

I have two comments not yet addressed in the posts: 1) its easy to use the basic program, limited training required to create a basic CPM schedule although the more complex stuff may take a bit more effort. and 2) near everyone seems to have some knowledge of it, have access to it and can use the rudimentary functions.

Primavera, the only other competing product I am familiar with, seems to intimidate those just starting out.

How many of you respected members currently use it?
- I do. I train it too. Certified MCTS in it from way back.
Is MS project flexible enough to handle all type of projects?
- Not "ALL" that is a big word but most. The 2016 version allows conversion for agile projects and Kanban board formats.
What about its features?
- So many. An abundance to tailor.
What about price?
- $10 per month for the very basic package, not too bad but high compared to other MS Office Products. Smartsheet is giving them a run for it though!
Would you recommend MS project to other project managers?
- Yes learn it. Scheduling using the #1 scheduling tool of choice a core skill PMs
Do you have a favorite project management tool and why?
- Kanban board on a white board (adaptable, dynamic), followed by Trello (accessibility and price) and then MS Project (great but need commitment to get good).
