Gentlemen-
Frankly speaking, I fail to understand ll the confusion here. This question pops up under the Construction Category!
In my opinion, EVERY Construction Project Manager is familiar with and utilizes these plans.
The Project Management Plan details all the Plans and actions you plan to take during the course of the Project. It includes (but is not limited to) the Stakeholder Management Plan, Communication Plan, Procurement Plan, Quality Plan, Change Management Plan, Document Control Plan, Re-design Management Plan, Project EXECUTION Plan, Schedule Management Plan, SAFETY Plan, Project Controls Plan.
Most Project Managers in the Construction Industry are very familiar with all the Tasks, Work Packages, Personnel, and Processes required to fulfill the Project, and they simply lay these out in a comprehensive text format. The Individual Department heads usually contribute (PQP, Safety, Etc.).
These detailed plans can usually be whipped up in 5-10 working days after, or just prior to mobilization or Contract Execution- I have produced the "Plan" during my first 2 weeks on site, with little input.
The Project Execution Plan is usually limited to your Field execution staff job descriptions, and descriptions of how they will perform their tasks, including reporting.
Could you recommend a good PEP template please?

Mark,

Good way explained, PMP is the overall plan, where the PEP is more specific to a field.
Could you recommend a good PEP template please? (I've asked Mark too.)

PJF-
I do not have any of my PEP's or PMP's on my laptop due to the Proprietary nature of the Documents. However, The best outline I found online is titled "Macdow Construction Execution Procedure". This Doc matches what I use, and you will notice the format is a version of ISO 9000. I am sure the ISO format is slightly outdated (ISO 2015 now?), however, the information for the PEP is accurate.
Be careful! Most of the information available online is incorrect, as I just discovered. The PEP is just one part-probably the most important part-of the overall PMP (Project Management Plan).

There is the term of Project Execution Plan (PEP) in PMBOK. In some of my clients, PEP is equal with the Business Case in PMBOK. It consists of very high-level project definition, strategy, and justification. During project planning, PEP is used as the very important input in developing the Project Management Plan.
I am sorry. There is a mistyping in my previous answer. I mean There is NO terms of Project Execution Plan (PEP) in PMBOK.

Why? Because PMBOK only talks about project management. It doesn't talk about project execution. In reality, we have three main components of a project: (1) project governance, (2) project management, and (3) project execution. PMBOK is only for no. 2 (project management) only. The plan for project management, we call the project management plan (PMP) whole for project execution, we call the project execution plan (PEP).

In PMP, we only talk about 10 PM knowledge area (cost, schedule, risk, etc), while in PEP we talk about the process of design, engineering, construction, commissioning, start-up, performance test, etc.

Jufran-
If you are utilizing the PMBOK Guide for advice on how to create a Construction Industry Project Management Plan then you are in big trouble.
Any Senior PM involved in Tier 1 Projects understands what is required in the PMP because it is clearly defined and is Required by Contract to be submitted to the Owner for Approval.

A PEP is a formal term. Used by the National Science Foundation among others as a basic document required for all infrastructure projects.

Perhaps this will not answer your question but is the first time I heard about Project Execution Plan mainly inside the PMI. As far as I remember there is no line about that inside the PMBOK.
Sergio, I agree with you. I too have never heard about it.
