I'm assuming you are asking about the WBS Dictionary as I'm not familiar with the acronym "EDT". The WBS Dictionary provides greater details about work and control packages in the WBS as the latter is usually represented graphically and hence there is limited space to capture detailed information about a given "node".

THe WBS Dictionary is critical to be created and it must not missed into any project. Is the only document that clearly define what does mean what the team must do. In my case, most of the time, we do not create a WBS and we go directly to WBS Dictionary. Is a must with virtual-highly distributed teams.
