Use the principle " Tailor to the business needs". If you preach by the book , you will have more haters than followers or supporters.
If I am a PMP , does not mean everyone should bow down to me and take my word as a gospel .
It "may" mean that people "may" consider the fact that I know some thing about structured project management practice.
As with anything , you stick to your guns and do the best that you can , and if people don't value your contributions or your opinions (again, subjective, think "Does my opinion or contribution benefit the business ?" ), then it's time to re-evaluate if you can provide more value elsewhere.
