I am planning to register a consulting company. I will also be training interested people on project management. Are there any strategies I need to know that make the process effective and seamless for me?

Hi Kimberly, I want to express my sincere gratitude for your warm welcome and the valuable information you provided regarding my question on the roadmap to becoming a project management consultant and the PMI Authorized Training Partner program.

After reviewing the requirements, I have identified that, at this time, I may not meet all the criteria to become an Authorized Training Partner. However, I am enthusiastic about the prospect of contributing to the PMI community and enhancing my skills. I am keenly interested in starting my journey by becoming a Train the Trainer and attaching myself to an existing Authorized Training Partner.

If you have any guidance or information on how I can connect with an Authorized Training Partner to begin the Train the Trainer process, I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Your insights will undoubtedly be instrumental in helping me navigate this path and contribute effectively to the project management community.

Thank you once again for your support and guidance. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Start by having a significant breadth and depth of project management experience, leading projects across a variety of different industries and company contexts. Otherwise, the training you offer might not provide sufficient perspective to be of benefit to your learners. A few key certifications might also help along with a course or two in adult education concepts.

Once you gain that experience and educational background, you might consider starting off by joining an established consultancy and then look at going solo at some point once you have worked with a number of clients.

Hello Kiron,

I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation for your valuable insights on the path to becoming a proficient project management trainer. Your advice on gaining significant project management experience and acquiring relevant certifications aligns with my career goals, and I find your guidance incredibly helpful.

I am pleased to share that I currently hold the PMP certification and Professional Scrum Master I, which I believe lays a solid foundation for my journey. However, after carefully reviewing the PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP) requirements, I acknowledge that I may not yet meet the criteria.

At this juncture, I am exploring the option of attaching myself to an existing consultancy as a Train the Trainer to gain practical experience and contribute meaningfully to the project management community. If you have any insights or recommendations on reputable consultancies that provide opportunities for Train the Trainer engagements, I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

Additionally, as I embark on this path, I realize the importance of enhancing my knowledge in adult education concepts. Could you kindly recommend some valuable courses or resources in this domain? I am eager to develop a solid foundation in adult education to complement my project management expertise.

Thank you once again for generously sharing your wisdom and expertise. Your guidance is invaluable, and I am grateful for your support.

Irimekyen, welcome to the community. I totally agree with Kiron's feedback and there isn't much I can add to it except to share my own experience. I did start my own consulting side gig after having 17 years of solid diversified experience and its going well so far. As a consultant, you carry yourself by your reputation and expertise - No course or certification will prepare you to be a great consultant other than your own hands-on experience. Organizations and/or individual candidates do expect you to guide them based on experience, not based on theory. Hope this helps!
