how process mining relate to project management

Process mining could be a good tool to reveal actual processes within organization, specially when it comes to gather information on organizational process assets, the question is when it would be relevent to leverage such a tool and what are suffucient signal at the organization that allow avoid spending energy in such endeavor vainly.
