Are you referring to PMI's certification? If so, then like with any other industry, holding a PMP credential as a PM might avoid getting rejected by a recruiter or hiring manager when applying for a role. Apart from that, it does demonstrate that you have a theoretical understanding of how to apply the PMBOK framework to specific PM scenarios.
