We are trying to move away from Excel spreadsheets to manage project plans. We are testing the use of Microsoft Planner, but there is very little training/webinars available to dig deep into usage. We understand the basics (adding and assigning tasks, changing statuses) and are looking for alternative views. For instance, how can we determine how many tasks an employee has assigned to them throughout all projects in Planner? Can we create project plan templates? Is there a way to assign notifications to a resource for a task nearing its completion date?

Does anyone have experience in Planner, or has anyone found any detailed training for Planner?

Microsoft Planner is a versatile tool that combines Kanban boards and schedule modes. To determine how many tasks an employee has been assigned, you need a specific Planner license that allows you to see a cross-project dashboard.

You can create a "model" template, and replicate it to use for different projects.

Other project management tools that I recommend are:

*For cascade projects, you can use MS Project, Nifty, Mindmanager, Wrike
*For hybrid projects, a good option is Planview.
*For agile/adaptive projects, Trello or Jira are the best choices.

If you are interested in collaboration between teams, Miro is a good option. It's a digital collaboration platform designed to facilitate remote and distributed team communication and Project Management.
