My LIM/GLOBAL Experience

I recently attended the Leadership Institute Meeting (LIM) in Detroit and I wanted to share a few highlights from my experience! Being able to expand and collaborate with student club programs across the country was amazing, and presenting our certification-before-graduation program was inspiring for us and, hopefully, for others.

My top three takeaways or highlights:

1. A genuine connection is just one conversation away.

This is networking at its best: be yourself, stay open, and be excited about what you are doing or want to do. There are other people out there who also want to be involved, and you never know where a simple hello will lead.

2. Look for inspiration, because it is all around us.

Seeing what other chapters and student clubs are doing was energizing. I’m bringing home one big question: how can we share our experiences and build on each other’s ideas to create something larger than any one of us could build alone?

3. Follow through.

I met and talked with so many people throughout the week, and I will be taking the time to follow up on where our ideas may lead. I hope to hear from people who want to talk with me as well. Inspiration can only take us so far. Action requires movement.

What’s next?

One thing I’d like to bring back to my student club is the idea of running our leadership team as a PMO, with intentional collaboration and shared accountability. We’re also launching CAPM study hall sessions so every member can work toward certification, and I’ll be following up on the connections I made at LIM to explore partnerships with other chapters. We are hoping to help guide clubs and chapters to get more students certified with PMI credentials.

Did you attend LIM this year, in Detroit, or another region? I’d love to hear about your experience, too!

  1. What was your biggest takeaway?
  2. Did you make a connection or learn something you plan to put into practice?
  3. What advice would you share with someone attending LIM for the first time?
