identifying critical path and reporting ?

While it would be easier if I had Microsoft Project Server, like I did with my previous employer, I can pretty well do most of it with my Microsoft Project 2010.

MS Project is the choice of many. If you do not have constraints for cost and licenses, use it otherwise go for some open sources like Project Open.
