How does PMI determine when to add another area for certification?

What is the trigger for PMI to consider a new way of managing projects? Waterfall vs. Agile. How would they also add another tier to that? I ask because many companies I've worked for use hybrid approaches--mixing Agile and Waterfall (we jokingly call it Wagile or something along those lines). I'm just curious what the process would be or if anyone knows.

William, I think it depends on the nature of the project and the business needs... what you're describing sounds like the combination of these two factors in addition to 'business-as-usual' preferences. Are you trying to migrate to agile from waterfall?

I am not sure how the process exactly is but I tend to agree with Daniel. You can address this to customer service or PMI Community Engagement In-Charge and they will for sure shed a light on it.

Someone from PMI can answer this.

"Agile comes to the PMBOKĀ® Guide - New to the Sixth Edition, each knowledge area will contain a section entitled Approaches for Agile, Iterative and Adaptive Environments, describing how these practices integrate in project settings."
