I am a project manager on the implementation services team of a company that delivers relocation services, and am in the process of reworking my team's project plan template. Currently, it is broken out by work streams such as technology, service delivery design, financial services, etc. Within each work stream, the five process groups apply (initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing). My goal is to design a template that is more linear and sequential, and I am leaning toward a breakdown according to process group. This may make it easier to follow, and also help with logging hours in preparation of the PMP exam, which requires such a breakdown. How is your project plan broken out? Saving Changes...

Thanks, Rami. It sounds like I'm on the right track then. Each project (implementation) includes multi-phase work streams, so I am listing the associated processes within the relevant process groups. As a simplified example, for one type of service, the PMs need to conduct data gathering and understand the client structure (initiating) before they can align with the client on the approach (planning) and then create the appropriate communications (executing).
You're Welcome Gail - You are indeed on the right track. However, I have the following comments on the example you've mentioned:
1- The need to gather data and understand client structure is part of planning where you define the scopecif work. Intiat9ngvshould include high level requirements, stakeholders list, bussiness goals and how they align with the companies objectives, and so on. Sort of a project charter.
2- How wil lyou close this phase ? And whats next phase ? Saving Changes...

Good point, Rami. I will review the activities to ensure they are grouped correctly. Closing typically includes archiving documents, recording lessons learned and formulating a post-implementation plan, but these are generic. I will look for closing processes specific to the individual work streams.
