A possible client sent an email stating
'...we may do a programmatic discovery before we do technical discovery and arrive at functional specs.'
My question is: What is programmatic discovery?"
To me this sounds like something from initiation, an analysis and justification process for a program.
BACKGROUND
The client has multiple instances of a product in place (via affiliates). Conversations around consolidation and improvements to the product are underway but this terminology (programmatic discovery) has now been introduced.
Is anyone familiar with this term? I am further confused because of the way the term programmatic can be used in the media/advertising industry as well as how it can be used to describe automated, logic driven processes such as algorithms. Saving Changes...

Agree with Sergio, if you need to react to this email you should be clear about what they mean rather than just assume things. As a quick prep for such a call: The wording suggests that those guys are using design thinking principles. In DT discovery is the first step of the process and means trying to understand the unmet needs. So when they are talking about programmatic discovery it basically means they currently do not know anything and are trying to answer to most basic questions regarding the business strategy. What, if anything, comes out of this process is therefore highly uncertain at this time... Saving Changes...
