At present PMP is more recognized in IT sector and unfortunately not given much weightage in other sectors including construction sector in spite fact PMP can be more advantageous in construction being a huge capital oriented sector . Most of people in management of these companies are unaware of PMP and its advantages. But I will always recommend doing PMP since after PMP you are far better PM and it gives you competitive advantage.

I agree with your last statement about doing the PMP but I totally disagree with your first one. I work in Project Management for Construction Projects since more than 12 years and PMP definitely carries big weight for recruiters especially in the construction sector because construction managemen can me much more complicated than other sectors.

I agree that construction/engineering project ask more and more for PMP certification for the PMT (project Management Team) but demande decrease when you go lower .
In both case it increase in the last few years.
Could be a local dynamic, here they ask more for engineers title then PMP !
- Take a look on a job board website
- Use as a key work Construction Project Manager and after IT Project Manager. You can also avoid "Construction" or "IT", and only use PM, you'll find both offers together
- Review the role description
You'll realize that
- Construction: Clear PM job description, PMP requested
- IT: Hands on? PMP Desirable? SEM? Really...are they looking for a PM or SEM or BA...never clear! Saving Changes...

Like Maria, I've been an IT project manager for all of my career. Many of my IT projects were in engineering, manufacturing and consumer products. Those industries usually put more weight in their own certifications than something like, say, PMI or Alexos certifications. Saving Changes...

I disagree with Ashkay as well. I manage a group of highly functioning project and construction management professionals, and greater than 60% of them have PMPs, and several of the others are in the process of achieving. It is a definitive factor in recruiting and hiring. Saving Changes...
