I always use theory Y approach on the first time, if it is done well so i continue to be theory Y manager. But if there is issue that i must observe closely and control every step (micromanagement) i think i use theory X (but this case is rarely). Saving Changes...
when asked i believe more than 90% will say they are theory Y, but you need to observe what person does on day to day basis. Most of us has wrong perception of our-self. :-) :-)

I think being X or Y depends on the type of work. I work in the IT field where task types vary frequently and provide good motivation. There is little place for dull, repetitive work. Up until now, I have always been a theory Y manager, which is quite in accordance with my field of work. Saving Changes...
