I just explored the new release of the PMBOK.

I have PMBOK with me all the time on my tablet, with highlight and notes like a regular paper copy. I can search my comments rapidly. I also have a softcover version that I can carry when needed.

I have advise PMI of this problem with some other PMI references documents.

PMBOK version 5 let you put highlight or notes, it let you print

Version 6 prevent printing (GOOD), prevent COMMENTING (BAD), prevent Content copying (I can retype, time consuming), plus that diagonal watermark (Overkill).

Is PMI culture change? Do PMI want to facilitate usage and diffusion of PMI knowledge?

I not clear on what is serve to block PMI member from adding comments to their PDF copy. Is the print copy in a material that prevent highlighting?

Other organization such has PMI let you HIGHLIGHT! They realize that their document are reference material.

Do we need to purchase PMBOK at Amazon, can it be highlighted? Other book (specially reference book) can be highlighted!

I prefer the Google Playbook version with flowing text. I can read it anytime on my android phone or tablet.

I got both PMBOK 6th and Agile Practice Guide.
Can you highlight?

I wouldn't really lay the blame at PMI's doors here. They are responding to an exploit that is rampant in the world today and, quite understandably, are worried about their IP.

The PDF version seems to have been published with an ultra-lock mode so as not to give even an inch to people who try to pirate versions and share. It seems excessive - but even now it isn't so.

It sucks as a PMI member, I agree. I maintain an MS OneNote page with all the notes I need (with reference to the PMBOK page as well as the PDF page).
Karan,

Thanks for your feedback.

I have most of my reference book on my tablet so to easily carry them and reference them.

an additional notebook seems less effective solutions.

To me, it is the first reference book that is lock, except other Complemental books from PMI.

Second I know about piracy, not too new of a fact. I don't see Highlighting to be anywhere close to piracy or impacting IP

Hi Manoj,

There is a Kindle version that you get to paid for, PMI member have have access to a free lock version for years that you could hightlight.

It is not clear that you can highlight the Kindle version!

I fully support your call
Thanks, Kevin,

Hope someone at PMI is listening, but I don't think so. I have sent a message concerning other reference books when they started to release them fully lock.

All I can say is membership is the revenue source for PMI, and we don't need to be a member to maintain certifications!

Hi. I find it really difficult to read a book online. After downloading PMBok 6Ed I noticed that print option was disabled. This is quite disappointing for PMI members. I am curious to know how the PMI board allowed this for PMI members since they pay adequate fee to join.
Srikana,

Good point see my reply to Kevin

Not being able to bookmark is very annoying - they should allow it for quick references
Thanks, Moushumi,

I agree with most of the comments here. The lockdown of the PDF seems very much a knee jerk reaction to piracy, and I'm wondering if any actual analysis was done on how much revenue is lost due to piracy and how much reputation damage is done by having such a limited pdf copy available.
Thanks, Douglas,

Damage control is to be added
