How did you handle it? Was there any favoritism? Did they get away with behavior and actions that anyone else could never get away with?

Yes, I had an experience like this several years ago. Fortunately this didn't last long, since the management fired this individual.
That's always an option Anish.

Sante,

I have see good case and bad case of that.

Most large corporation have policy against that.
Vincent, policies are good, unless of course the family or friend employed by the boss is the one writing/administering the policy ;-)

Nice question, Sante!
This happens frequently in many small organizations, specifically those that are family-run businesses.
While, at first sight, this seems a situation rife with conflict of interest, it doesn't always need to deteriorate to that extent when handled proactively and tactfully.

I had to work with a stakeholder that was related to my boss for few months. It was a horrible experience, never show up on time or meet any deadlines.

Sante, thanks for bringing this up this is one of my ongoing issues, you mentioned about 3rd world countries and you think this wont happen in Canada! absolutely happening and on big scale, not just one person though I am diving in a big spider web, the most annoying part of it no matter how much you collect evidence it wont fly any where rather you will be marked as a "bad Guy" there are cluster cells within the administrative forces single PM can not fight the whole system or you can not stand against the current directions of the big waves unless you have your strong FIN number and can throw your resign if your progressive disciplinary not processed even for corrective the troublesome, I hate to say that those people are like Fistulas and we need to compromise to sustain, tolerance and workaround them.
