As leaders change their organizations through strategy and projects and as groups of projects are expected to deliver business outcomes, portfolio management is looked to as a potential solution more than ever before. Yet challenges remain in understanding how to set up portfolios and select projects that will support the desired change for the organization. Organizations continue to struggle with the reality of finite capacity and selecting projects while declining others. Different areas of the organization look to portfolio management to solve their specific problems, without looking at the overall organizational challenges or needs. Other projects continue forward as ‘priorities’ while other ones are told to wait.
