Project HEADWAY: Thinking Agile In Traditional Projects
This presentation is supporting material for this video.
Agile and traditional viewpoints of project management have often been viewed as oil and water; they just don’t mix. The reality, however, is that very few environments actually support truly agile methods. And most traditional projects could benefit from the adoption of principles typically found in agile. The most effective project managers actually blend both approaches in delivering their projects.
In this presentation, Mark Mullaly explores the origin of both traditional and agile techniques, and explains why these viewpoints are actually two extremes on a continuum. Rather than viewing the problem as a black-and-white, either-or proposition, this presentation illuminates the shades of grey that can be leveraged in developing effective management strategies.
You will learn about the essential principles that define both agile and traditional approaches. More importantly, you will be exposed to strategies for gaining acceptance of agile approaches in traditional environments, as well as approaches where traditional perspectives can make agile more effective. Most importantly, you will explore how to effectively assess your current environment, and determine the best approach for each individual project given the political and organizational culture you find yourself within
