Project HEADWAY: Reinventing The PMO: A Value Added Approach
This presentation is supporting material for this video.
PMOs are faced with some significant challenge. Unfortunately, many (but not all) of these challenges are of their own making. In a perfect world, PMOs deliver significant value to their organizations, and are looked upon as appreciated partners to the organization. In reality, PMOs are often looked upon as unwelcome bureaucracies that create excess process, demand additional work and effort whose value is not readily evident and are seen as obstacles to the creation of value. Numerous research studies have indicated that PMOs have an average life expectancy of two years, and most struggle to demonstrate the relevance or value of their services.
This doesn't have to be the case. Changing this reality, however, requires a fundamental rethinking of what PMOs are supposed to do, how they should be organized and what services and capabilities they should be in the business of offering. The most successful PMOs take an outside-in approach to their development. The are clear about the customers they serve and the value proposition that they are expected to deliver. This perspective then governs every subsequent action associated with their development and the subsequent delivery of services.
In this webinar, Mark Mullaly leverages insight from research and current practice to identify what works in developing the value-added PMO. He explores what works and why it works, and helps to outline a framework and approach that any PMO or project services organization can adopt to ensure that its services effectively deliver value.
