One of the promises of organizational project management is increased consistency, repeatability and reliability of project management. It is one of the fundamental drivers of developing organizational practices. We want to move away from individual practices and towards a unified, organizational way of operating. But is this really desirable? Is it really possible? And what would it mean if we got there?

Consistency certainly makes sense in a number of dimensions of organizational life. We don’t want people constantly reinventing how they claim expenses. We value consistency in compensation practices. The efficiency of manufacturing and product assembly processes is built on an essential assumption of consistency.

In the world of project management, consistency of practice is also an inarguable goal of many organizations. It is, in fact, a prevailing assumption underlying how the maturity of our project management practices is assessed and evaluated. But how relevant is consistency? What kind of consistency is important? And how much consistency is enough?

In this webinar, Mark Mullaly dives into the role and relevance of consistency in making project management happen in organizations. He explores why consistency is perceived to be important, and the role it is intended to serve. We’ll explore how the principles of consistency translate into real life practices, and the challenges of sustaining consistency on an on-going basis. We’ll test the assumption that consistency matters,  explore the ways in which consistency is relevant—and where it isn’t. Most importantly, we’ll provide practical guidance in how to focus organizational practices on those dimensions of consistency that actually make a difference in delivering projects.

If you manage projects in an organizational context, this is a webinar you’ll want to be sure to attend and share.
