"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." ~ Mike Tyson

But Tyson had a plan going into every fight.

I’ve burned a lot of time - and career currency - trying to create that perfect project plan, and I can tell you for a fact that those plans did not eat that first punch any better than plans created in much less time.

Project planning truth #1: You need a project plan ASAP. A project plan is usually the first explicit/tangible deliverable in the project management value chain and nothing sets a project down the right path like it. Note, though, I did not say that you need a PERFECT project plan.

Project planning truth #2: There is no such thing as the perfect plan.

Projectize is a bit of a mouthful but it’s a simple concept at heart: a 4-step method for getting from concept to project blueprint in days (not weeks.)

  1. Unpack the work

  2. Create a checklist

  3. Size the work

  4. Plan the work
