Project HEADWAY: Owning Product Ownership

The role of Product Owner is one that has emerged and arisen to significant prominence in a number of industries over the past few years. In that time, it has moved from alternative approach to a mainstream means of thinking about the development of products, systems, services and sites.

There is a lot that is presumed to overlap between project management and product ownership. And while this is true to an extent, they are very different roles that require different and nuanced skills and capabilities. In particular, they require a very different mindset. 

Project managers who are wanting to make a shift to a product ownership role need to recognize and embrace this mindset shift. They need to consciously let go of a number of behaviors and ways of thinking about their work, and embrace very new ones. While that can be challenging, it can also be very rewarding.
