Overview

This webinar examines the increasingly entangled relationship between artificial intelligence and sustainability, and what it means for project managers operating at the front line of organizational delivery. AI is widely promoted as an accelerator for sustainability outcomes — enabling smarter resource use, sharper ESG reporting, and faster decision-making across complex programs. At the same time, AI itself carries a significant and often understated sustainability footprint, from energy and water consumption to embedded model bias and governance gaps. The session moves beyond the hype cycle to give project leaders a clear-eyed view of both directions of this relationship: AI for sustainability, and the sustainability of AI.
Attendees will explore how project managers can responsibly integrate AI into sustainable delivery without falling into greenwashing traps, over-reliance, or governance blind spots. The discussion draws on emerging practices, international standards, and practitioner experience to highlight the trade-offs leaders must weigh when AI is positioned as part of a sustainability strategy. With AI now embedded in nearly every domain of project work, and sustainability becoming a non-negotiable lens across portfolios, this conversation offers timely guidance for project leaders who must hold both priorities together — not as competing agendas, but as a single, integrated governance challenge that will define the next decade of the profession.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize the two-way relationship between AI and sustainability, including AI’s role as a sustainability enabler and its own material environmental and governance footprint.
  • Apply practical considerations for integrating AI responsibly into sustainable project delivery, including risk areas such as greenwashing, model governance, and over-automation.
  • Evaluate trade-offs in AI-enabled sustainability initiatives to determine where AI genuinely strengthens project outcomes versus where it introduces hidden costs or strategic risk.
