One of the greatest responsibilities in any discipline is ensuring the development of those who come after. As a new generation of prospective project managers enters the workforce, how can we effectively support their skill development and growth?
The development of the next generation has long been a function of different combinations of mentoring, formal training and throwing them off the deep end to see what happens. In the world of project management, training and reality have long been mainstays. We mostly learn by doing, often as ‘accidental’ project managers. Challenges are thrust in our direction, we take them on as best we can, and do the best job we can with what we have and what we know. The past decade, however, has also seen the rise of mentoring and coaching as more formalized modes of development.
So how do these influences intersect as we look to the development of future generations of project managers? How will the evolution of project management change what is needed, what is expected and what is required? How will organizational expectations drive what gets sought and emphasized in the marketplace? How will generational influences shape what is sought, what is valued and what has impact? And how will the demands that are placed on current project managers constrain the attention they pay and the emphasis they place on support and development?
Join Mark Mullaly as he explores the challenge of project management development in an emerging age. He explores the challenges that have shaped how project management has evolved so far. He confronts what has worked and what has failed in developing the skill sets, capabilities and leadership abilities. And he defines the strategies, expectations and commitments that will be required if a future generation of project managers is to succeed and thrive. If you supervise, mentor, coach, train or simply act as a role model that others might look up to, this is a webinar you won’t want to miss.
