Capital Program Management in the Food and Beverage Industry

Having served in the U.S. food and beverage industry in many different capacities over the past 29 years, I have an interest in improving plant operations through effective capital program management. The roles I have performed include production supervisor, project engineer, manufacturing engineer, and plant manager. Hence the motivation for this paper. This paper highlights the key activities and management guidelines that are required to manage a capital program successfully. This paper is an outline only. The practitioner is expected to enhance this outline with embellishments, customizing plans based on individual needs. A successful capital management program provides the foundation for good project execution, improved plant infrastructure, product cost, quality improvements, and meeting customer deliverables.
