Three Reasons Why You Can't Handle the Politics
From the An Influential Project Manager Blog
by Colin Gautrey
Today, more than ever, a project manager needs to be an influencer.
The purpose of this blog is to stimulate your journey towards greater influence. With influence, you can overcome the roadblocks thrown in your way, overcome opposition, align stakeholders and, enjoy your role even more.
However, since I know you are busy, the posts here will be short (about a minute), thought provoking and also drive you towards action.
Feel free to connect with me, ask me questions, and share what's good here.

There are many reasons why you may well struggle to handle the politics, though these three are hard to beat.
Top of my list, your attitude to workplace politics.
If you hate it you will shy away from it and fail to learn how to do it properly.
Second, you can’t see it.
Lack of awareness will always get you burned sooner or later.
Finally, sorry, you don’t have enough friends.
This is more than having friends in high places. You need friends everywhere: feeding you titbits of intelligence, watching your back, sticking up for you, and much more besides.
So come on, start making friends.

I agree friends are needed. I prefer to think of them as my network.
